VIP – ‘3Way Cafe’ NY Location | Behind the Scenes

03 Jul

Your VIP Behind the Scenes Pass, and your eyes… Evan Leung behind the stills camera. ‘3-Way’s’ Director/Writer, Shawna Cox, recap’s the afternoon…

It was a fantastic space in the heart of historic Gastown, Vancouver. The private residence of a long time friend, Justin.

Below, Mark Ghanime (supporting Lead) and Trevor Johnston.

We are really using it’s length and lines. The natural light from the west side of the loft provided a soft throw – working with practical lighting will lend to a morning / early afternoon shoot.

We are following the inspiration of the Loft’s length and have planned long, uncut takes of handheld shots as we follow Mark’s progression into and through the space.

The script saw minor revisions, lending to this great flow.

During the location sweep, I had a chance to meet and talk with Jamie Switch.

It was a first meet and greet for consideration of the role of ‘Lucas’ for the film. It went very well and we set up time the following night, Sunday at 9:30 pm ( yes, 24/7, baby! ), for a camera test audition and cold read.

All actors HATE me when I do that to them… the cold read, that is… πŸ˜‰

Jamie proved to be a fabulous resource, and was on the phone without hesitation, hooking us up with his network for any lighting equipment we might need for our ‘low/no’ budget production. πŸ™‚

Yes, more brownie points in the Director’s heart…

Again, the space was lending us to nice, long takes with little need to intercut with other shots. We are planning to tackle 5 pages in just 3 uncut sequences.

Trevor’s job is cut out for him, but it is definitely one of his strengths and I am excited for Friday and see these sequences build.

Mark and Trevor will work off of each other, the camera a ‘floating eye’ tracking his line of motion, watching at his side…

It’s gonna be a great way to kick off the film. We definitly have set the bar with this location and will be working to keep our creative and technical chops running into new ground. πŸ™‚

Awesome location! Great idea to use the space with moving camera as well. Very nice!
